We do hope that you have started your sailing season and have been enjoying the variable weather that we have been having with a couple of glorious weeks surrounded by some pretty windy patches, I was out last Saturday during the Round the Island Race and was suprised at the number of May Day and Pan Pan calls that were being made.
On review of these with the coastguard it seem many were for injuries and incidents that might have been dealt with by crews themselves if they had good first aid training. Perhaps time for a course?!
We have remained extremely busy at MSOS, and will hopefully soon have some news regarding a new premises in the middle of Southampton.
However despite the work that the new premises has been taking we have been running several training courses for crews undertaking the Transatlantic race and also for some Volvo crew members.
MSOS are very excited to be involved in the two upcoming round the world races.
We are the mediacal advisors for the Volvo Round the World , and although Tommo has been involved with this for a considerable time, it is great to have Spike as the Chief Medical Officer of the race.
We are also the Medical Advisers for the Global Ocean Race. This looks like it is going to be a fantastic race with more than 20 Class 40 yachts bashing their way around the globe.
MSOS are busy designing some Medical kits for new race boats and planning some further training days for race crews who want to be better prepared for any medical issues that might occur while out at sea.
