
Course details
This entry level medical course runs for one day. Essentially, crew are trained how to respond to medical and trauma emergencies, and how to assess patients. There is particular emphasis on teaching crew how to use the contents of their medical kit, and basic skills such as wound repair, dealing with fractures and dislocations, and how to move injured or unwell patients. There is also an update on resuscitation skills such as basic life support and advanced life support.
Crew are trained to be a 'first responder'. This includes how to assess patients, and how to respond to medical and trauma emergencies. There is also an update on resuscitation skills such as basic life support and advanced life support.
World class medical training
Courses are held at the MSOS training centres in Palma, Southampton, Antibes and Fort Lauderdale, or onboard your own vessel. MSOS instructors are all medically qualified, and have extensive experience as sailors. They know what it’s like to deal with anything from a sore throat in the North Atlantic, to a broken leg on the foredeck of a boat in the Southern Ocean.
Bespoke & specialist training courses
Courses can be created for any scenario including care of children, the elderly, diving injuries or use of a kit or equipment.
MSOS also provides specialist courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use of oxygen and defibrillators, advanced wound repair and more. Familiarisation courses are also offered, upon delivery of a new kit to a boat.
