Maritime and Coastguard Agency
The MCA is an executive agency of the UK Department for Transport. It works to prevent the loss of life on the coast and at sea. They produce legislation and guidance on maritime matters, and provide certification to seafarers.
MSOS is an MCA approved training provider for basic, advanced and refresher medical maritime training. All MCA training meets the exacting standards of the STCW (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers).
The MCA Elementary First Aid course is a basic level entry course required worldwide by any crew member of a commercially operated vessel.
The MCA Proficiency in Medical First Aid and MCA Proficiency in Medical Care courses provide more advanced training. For those requiring their five year refresher, MSOS is an approved supplier of the MCA Updated Proficiency in Medical Care.
MCA and STCW training centres
Courses are held at the MSOS training centres in Palma, Southampton, Antibes and Fort Lauderdale, or onboard your own vessel. MSOS instructors are all medically qualified, and have extensive experience as sailors. They know what it’s like to deal with anything from a sore throat in the North Atlantic, to a broken leg on the foredeck of a boat in the Southern Ocean.
