Distant Ocean Medical Kit (DOM)
When embarking on a trans-ocean voyage, access to high-quality medical care may be days away. The Distant Ocean Medical Kit (DOM) has been specifically designed to provide essential treatment and stabilisation for crew members during long passages, ensuring medical emergencies can be managed effectively while offshore.
Suitable for
The Distant Ocean Medical Kit is ideal for private vessels undertaking non-commercial activities, including:
- Trans-ocean crossings, such as an Atlantic passage.
- Seasonal cruising in remote areas, including the Caribbean and Pacific.
- Extended offshore voyages, such as through the Panama Canal and beyond.
This kit is recommended for crews with first aid training and ideally supplemented by telemedical support, enabling remote consultation with medical professionals when needed.
Kit Contents
The DOM is supplied in two rugged Pelicases to protect its contents in harsh marine environments, with an alternative option for soft bags if preferred. The kit is designed for up to ten crew members, with the option to expand for up to twenty crew by adding an adjunct bag.
The contents are logically arranged into modules, covering the most common medical situations encountered offshore. Additional specialist modules can be integrated, including:
- Oxygen therapy
- Defibrillator (AED)
- Advanced treatment options
Each component has been carefully selected to ensure crew members can manage medical issues effectively while awaiting professional medical assistance.
