Compliant Medical Care for Commercial Vessels
For commercial vessels operating more than 150 nautical miles offshore, the MCA Category A Medical Kit ensures compliance with UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) MSN 1905 regulations. Designed for ships beyond helicopter range or immediate offshore rescue services, this comprehensive medical kit provides essential treatment capabilities for long voyages where professional medical assistance may be days away.
Suitable for
The MCA Category A Medical Kit is a mandatory requirement for commercial vessels undertaking trans-ocean passages, such as:
- Atlantic crossings and extended offshore operations.
- Seasons in the Caribbean, Pacific, or other remote regions.
- Vessels passing through the Panama Canal and beyond.
This kit allows crew to manage a wide range of medical issues on board and stabilise seriously ill or injured crew members until professional assistance becomes available.
Kit Contents
The kit is supplied in three clearly organised bags—a Grab Bag, Main Bag, and Resuscitation Bag—each containing modules housed in transparent pouches for quick and easy access. The MCA Category A kit can be configured for 10, 20, or 30 crew, with additional medical adjunct bags available as required.
Standard supply includes soft bags, including a clam-shell grab bag for rapid response situations. Alternatively, the kit can be provided in Pelicases for enhanced protection in harsh marine environments.
Training and Compliance
To comply with MCA regulations, at least one crew member must have completed the MCA Medical Care at Sea course within the past five years. It is strongly recommended that at least two crew members undertake this training, ensuring continuity of care if the designated medical officer requires assistance themselves.
