Essential Compliance for Offshore Commercial Vessels
The MCA Category B Medical Kit is designed to meet the latest UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) MSN 1905 regulations for commercial vessels operating up to 150 nautical miles offshore. This comprehensive kit ensures vessels remain compliant while providing essential medical support within helicopter range or quick access to offshore rescue services.
Suitable for
This kit is a mandatory requirement for vessels navigating coastal and offshore waters, including:
- Baltic Sea, northern Europe, and the western seaboard.
- Seasons in the Mediterranean.
- Eastern seaboard of the Americas and the Caribbean.
Designed for vessels where medical assistance may be hours away, the kit enables crews to manage common medical issues on board and stabilise casualties until professional help arrives.
Kit Contents
The MCA Category B Medical Kit is supplied in three structured bags—a Grab Bag, Main Bag, and Airway/Oxygen Bag—each containing clear plastic pouches for efficient organisation and rapid identification of essential medical supplies.
The kit can be configured for 10, 20, or 30 crew members by adding supplementary medical adjunct bags, ensuring the correct level of medical resources for any voyage. It is available in durable soft bags or protective Pelicases, both featuring the same intuitive modular system.
Training and Compliance
To comply with MCA regulations, at least one crew member must have completed the MCA Medical First Aid Aboard Ship course within the past five years. For enhanced safety, it is recommended that at least two crew members are trained, ensuring continued medical capability if the designated medic becomes incapacitated.
